ABOUT THE PROJECT
A festival poster that celebrates Goa’s Mando music and culture, using typographic patterns inspired by Portuguese Azulejos and musical forms.
BRIEF
Research a folk tradition and create a typographic poster for an event based on it. Use a black-and-white medium, include at least one Indian script, and take inspiration from folk music. The poster should clearly reflect the culture, mood, and rhythm of the tradition in a simple and creative way.
INSIGHT
The Mando Festival is a Goan folk music and dance celebration blending Indian and Western influences. Held in December, it preserves Goan music, dance, and storytelling. The visual language is inspired by traditional Azulejos tile patterns, which are a key part of Goa’s cultural heritage.
CONCEPT NOTE
The poster uses typography to tell the story of the Mando Festival. The letters form musical symbols, with the ‘M’ connecting to ‘N’ like a note and the ‘O’ shaped like a guitar. Azulejos-inspired patterns add decoration, while “Mando” in English and “Utsav” in Konkani show the cultural blend.
